TCEW 2023
Notice for attendees. Published 14 June 2023
Hi all,
I hope that you are all getting the opportunity to walk our mountains to breathe the fresh air and “put the miles in your legs”.
We are continuing our preparations for Tom Crean Endurance Walks (TCEW) 2023 and have an exciting weekend to offer you.
We are delighted to say that Rosemary and Julian Evans, grandchildren of Edward Evans, are joining us in Annascaul for the weekend to celebrate Tom Crean’s epic solo trek that saved the life of their grandfather Edward Evans and that of Bill Lashly.
On Friday evening we will have a short wreath-laying ceremony in the Tom Crean Garden across from the South Pole Inn, followed by a slide show from Julian Evans on the Antarctic.
On Saturday we will set out early on our annual Tom Crean Endurance Walk and celebratory BBQ afterward in the village.
For those staying over until Sunday, we are planning the short Tom Crean trail walk from the village to Ballinacourty graveyard to pay our respects to Tom Crean and complete the celebration.
A great addition this year, on display at the South Pole Inn, is a replica of the James Caird lifeboat, and an account of its famous voyage.

The locations of water are shown as waypoints on the .GPX file.
Parking
There are ongoing roadworks in the village of Annascual and out of respect for the residents, please do not park on the roadside in the village.
