Tom Crean Endurance Walk 2024

 Saturday, June 22, 2024

Hi all,

I hope that you are all getting the opportunity to walk our mountains to breathe the fresh air and “put the miles in your legs”.

We are continuing our preparations for Tom Crean Endurance Walks (TCEW) 2024 and have an exciting weekend to offer you.

On Saturday we will set out early on our annual Tom Crean Endurance Walk and celebratory BBQ afterward in the village.

A great addition this year, on display at the South Pole Inn, is a replica of the James Caird lifeboat, and an account of its famous voyage.

Weekend Schedule

Friday 21st

  • 5.00 – 9.30 Walk registration
  • 7.30 wreath laying ceremony at Tom Crean garden and an informative and very enjoyable talk on the life of Tom Crean and Annascaul from Mike O Sullivan .

Saturday 22nd

  • Endurance Walk followed by BBQ (walkers only)

Some logistics:

There will be no food provided at the Conor Pass but there will be water.

We will also have a facility for walkers to pack a small food/clothes bag which we will bring from Annascual to the Conor Pass and return to Annascaul for collection. The locations of water are shown as waypoints on the  .GPX file.

There are ongoing roadworks in the village of Annascual and out of respect for the residents, please do not park on the roadside in the village.

Parking is available in the field opposite Station Road at the Dingle side of the village. Google pin

This will be open from 1700 on Friday (21) evening until about 2130 and again at 0600 on Sat the 22nd

The busses will be in Annascaul at 6.30 and gone by 7.00.

One of the buses will do a single pick-up in Dingle at the back of Garveys Super Value (the side nearest the harbour) at 7:15. If you want a lift please be there as there are no other arrangements.

Water is provided at the following three locations.

Frequently asked questions

Q1. Is there a GPX file available for the route?

If you have Outdoor Active you can copy the route from here

A1. Yes, A GPX file can be copied from here  .

As some mail services and some operating systems reject .gpx files for security reasons, I have renamed the .gpx file with a .txt extension and saved them both in this folder.

The .txt file can be copied from here

I suggest you download both files, and if the .gpx file works for you great, if not then the file with the .txt extension will be allowed by your mail service and all you have to do is change the file extension from .txt back to .gpx and import into your device.

Q2. How do I add the GPX file to Outdoor Active?

A2. Follow this YouTube video Import GPX

Q3. How do I add the GPX file to Komoot?

A3. Here are instructions

Q4. Can I have a refund on my ticket or change the details?

A4. After June 10 no refunds can be issued or edits made to the tickets so that we can get the paperwork in order.
